NEUBIE direct current therapy in Ashland

Use electrical stimulation to support purposeful movement, not replace it.

The NEUBIE is a pulsed direct-current electrical stimulation device. RCC may use it during selected movement, muscle-activation, or rehabilitation work when it has a clear role in the larger plan.

What the device does

Surface electrodes deliver pulsed direct current to a selected area.

Conductive pads are placed on the skin and intensity is adjusted while you remain in communication with the clinician. Depending on the goal, stimulation may be used while resting, performing a controlled movement, or practicing a rehabilitation task.

The NEUBIE is different from a typical battery-powered TENS unit, but a different waveform does not guarantee a better result. The presentation, task, dose, surrounding plan, and individual response still matter.

FDA clearance in context

Clearance defines permitted uses. It does not prove every marketing claim.

The device is FDA cleared for uses that include neuromuscular re-education, maintaining or increasing range of motion, increasing local circulation, reducing muscle spasm, preventing or slowing disuse atrophy, and management or relief of certain pain presentations.

FDA clearance is not a promise that the device will correct a diagnosis, heal a nerve, reset the nervous system, eliminate pain, or outperform other care for every person. RCC uses the narrowest claim supported by the care being delivered and measures what changes.

A practical process

Choose a task. Add stimulation. Reassess.

  1. Choose a meaningful target. Connect the intervention to strength, coordination, range of motion, walking, lifting, balance, or another relevant task.
  2. Use a tolerable dose. Adjust pad placement, stimulation, and movement so the experience remains understandable and purposeful.
  3. Reassess without the device. Check whether the target task or capacity changed and whether that change carries into ordinary movement.

Where it may fit

The device is considered as an adjunct, not a diagnosis.

  • Practicing muscle activation during a controlled task
  • Supporting neuromuscular re-education during rehabilitation
  • Exploring a tolerable range of motion or movement strategy
  • Adding stimulation to low-load strengthening when appropriate
  • Supporting a structured return-to-activity plan

The same symptom may require a different route, and not every rehabilitation plan needs electrical stimulation.

Evidence needs context

Device-specific research is growing, but it is not equally strong for every condition.

Published NEUBIE research includes studies of muscle response and very-low-load resistance training, along with smaller neurological reports. Additional controlled studies are registered or underway.

That evidence does not justify presenting NEUBIE as a proven stand-alone treatment for every pain condition, sports injury, neuropathy, or neurological disease. RCC uses condition-specific reasoning and avoids transferring findings from one population to another.

Safety and comfort

Electrical stimulation requires screening and clear communication.

The stimulation may feel like tingling, buzzing, pressure, or a muscle contraction. Intensity should be adjusted with your feedback. Temporary fatigue or muscle soreness can occur after active sessions.

Pregnancy and an implanted cardiac pacemaker are established contraindications. Other health conditions, implanted electronic devices, skin concerns, recent surgery, cancer history, clotting concerns, seizure history, altered sensation, or treatment location may require added caution, medical coordination, or another option.

Common questions

Before your first visit.

Is NEUBIE the same as TENS?

No. Both use surface electrodes, but the NEUBIE uses pulsed direct current and can be incorporated into active neuromuscular or rehabilitation work. A different current does not by itself determine clinical value.

Does NEUBIE reset or rewire the nervous system?

RCC does not make that promise. Neuromuscular re-education is an FDA-cleared use, but broad claims about resetting, rewiring, or permanently correcting the nervous system go beyond what should be inferred from that clearance.

Will every rehabilitation session include NEUBIE?

No. The device is used only when there is a clear rationale. Many useful rehabilitation plans rely on movement, loading, education, and home practice without electrical stimulation.

How many sessions will I need?

That cannot be determined from a website. Recommendations depend on the presentation, goals, safety factors, surrounding plan, and whether meaningful progress is occurring.

Check before ordinary booking

Some cases need guidance first.

If your visit involves an auto accident, work injury, Medicare, a required referral or authorization, or an unclear insurance path, call or text before ordinary online booking so we can guide you to the appropriate next step.
